New items in the shoppe!

Still working on getting more fall-ish and wintery items into my shop. I purchased a slew of new fabrics in the past couple of weeks and I think I’m overloaded with material choices and therefore moving kinda sluggishly.
I did manage to sew some nice new things for the season transition. Did you know that it was in the 80s here this past week? Indeed. So even though I’m trying to lean towards more autumnal items, I found myself continuing to mix it up with pretty florals and such. Which ultimately I like, because then you can use it a lot more throughout the year.

What up G?

So why do I have all of these random purses?

rings2.jpg

I thrifted them for the purpose of, well, re-purpose.
But only one specific part.
It’s not that I’m all about the ‘O’. (Say that with a nice smooth voice like that pretty german lady from the overstock.com commercials.)
It’s that I’m all about the O-rings you see.
And it’s ridiculously hard to find them, did you know?
Everything is d-ring this, d-ring that. Which is nice, yes, fine, I like d-rings as much as the next guy, but c’mon, I need some variety people.

So when Mike and I did our little thrifting trips last week, I scored some cheapy, well, kinda icky, purses. All for the rings.

Thank you.

Fall is in the air.

With that, I’m working on some new bags (and accessories!) made with some new autumnal fabrics that I recently picked out.

My favorite color so far is this bright rust. It looks awesome in this heavy ribbed cotton. It’s almost like corduroy, but even more interesting.

On Saturday, I made 4 new bags, to launch fall and to bring with me to an open house that I was invited to participate in. (Open house=tupperware party? You know, but with purses (mine!) and jewelry and food and pampered chef and stuff.)

The first 2 were snapped up right away and even garnered me orders for more. Which, nice!

(See just how awesome and cute my labels look? WOO!)

It’s official, I own my own label.

Well, labels, anyway.

A bit ago, I came across a lovely craftblog called splityarn (Don’t you just love her banner picture? Little Peoples sewing machine! Awww) and saw that she made these cute little wallet thingies. And what I really liked was the simplicity of her tags. So I sent her an email a while back and she referred me to the very cool namemaker site. After much procrastinating, I order the 5/8, 100% woven labels, style F34. And I LOVE them! Too bad they came just after I finished production for the fair items, but all the new bags and items will have these babies sewn in/on ‘em. But namemaker was fast and they were incredibly reasonably priced and they are so cute! So I’m all official and designer label-y now. Yeah, I’m a dork.

But here they are:

I got the ones you can iron on, though I will be ironing and sewing them on.

For now though, I could only iron them onto the 2 bags that I currently use to lug my essentials around:

I’m all proud!

Arlington County Fair

After much preparation and hardwork and well, worry, I survived my first year at the Arlington County Fair.

The weather was hot, but the air conditioning in the exhibitors hall was chilled. I’m sure that alone drew lots of people inside checking out the booths. Which, I’m so totally thankful for!

I can say that I had an overall positive experience, though my bladder might beg to differ. Mike did an excellent job though, taking care of Little Face and coming by a few times a day to allow me to run to the loo. When they came by, Matty was always drawn to the macaroni sculpture of Italy. And who could blame him? It’s Italy! In pasta!

And here he is being completely bored by his mama’s booth:

arlcraft08.jpg

At one point, Mike made him into the super hero of the fair:

arlcraft06.jpg

Nice!

And here is my booth setup. I rotated and filled in when necessary and was so pleased with how everything looked.

arlcraft01.jpgarlcraft02.jpgarlcraft03.jpg

On the second day, I talked to Mike about making a small sign indicating what and who craftysassi is all about. I did this mainly in response to seeing a retail vendor around the corner from me that was hawking bags for 5 bucks. I thought it important to notify potential customers that my merchandise is entirely homemade, one of a kind, quality items produced lovingly by yours truly. Not mass-produced, sweatshop crapola. And then I let the bags speak for themselves.

arlcraft05.jpg

And I did well! I’m very thankful for all the folks who stopped by to browse and buy and to all those who paid me lovely compliments and took my business card. I met some very wonderful people and got lots of warm and fuzzies hearing nice people say nice things about my stuff. Aww.

And well, let’s hope I can do it again next year.

Um, I think this is a lot?

I did indeed have a Strawberry Shortcake doll when I was a kid.

A bunch of new hairbands. I love that I have found a way to use scraps. I made 35 of them over like 2 days. Not too shabby.

And finally, some wristlets and makeup bags.

So now it’s on to keychains. I’m trying to do 20 before Thursday. We’ll see if I meet my goal, ’cause right now, I’m feeling the beginnings of the dreaded burn-out. Eeek.

Melissa’s bag.

For a fellow craftgrrl. She saw the one I made for Jodi’s co-worker and fell in love with the fabric. This one is just a bit bigger, per her request. And it looks so sweet with the pinkie lining.

purse246.jpgpurse247.jpgpurse248.jpg

Okay, so I’m slowing down a bit.

I think Mike is worried.
Eh.
I’m not.
I figure I’ll go to the fair with everything I have and not stress about things that I didn’t get to do.
It’s all supposed to be fun and enjoyable and I don’t need to pressure myself with thoughts of bringing 100 purses.

I think it’s just ’cause my energy is zapped.
I’m totally blaming the heat.
Even though we have the air conditioning.
Which, thank the good Lord.

So anyways, here is the weekend’s accomplishments.

Swirly!

purse193.jpgpurse195.jpgpurse194.jpg

And a matching pouch.

makeup023.jpgpurse196.jpg

Stars and stripes, my way.

purse201.jpgpurse202.jpg
purse203.jpgpurse204.jpg

This one I really like, it’s so autumnal from the outside, but springy and vibrant on the inside. The front picture is actually a functioning pocket.

purse197.jpgpurse199.jpgpurse198.jpg

With a matching pouch also.

The pink ladies.

purse205.jpgpurse206.jpgpurse207.jpg

Probably my favorite of this bunch. It has that great brushed chocolate twill (feels like suede!) with a bright cheery flowered lining. The straps have nickel d-rings for added interest.

And lastly, 2 more cute makeup bags.

I thought there was more than this!

It felt like I was sewing and sewing and sewing…
But 4 bags, a few wristlets, some make-up bags and I’m wondering why I feel so darned tired.
Eh.
Anyways, my new things:

I always wonder if our neighbors can hear my sewing machine at 1am.

I should be working right now, really.
Instead, I’m doing what I do best, procrastinating!
I do feel somewhat accomplished though, I completed 5 new bags, plus some makeup pouches and wristlets too.
And I cut out a bunch more this morning.

The fruits of said labor:

purse172.jpgpurse173.jpgpurse174.jpgpurse175.jpg

purse168.jpgpurse169.jpgpurse170.jpg
That one has a surprise inside.

purse171.jpg

A turtle surprise.
Mike gave me lots of funny looks when I was matching up fabrics. But I felt the paisley and the turtles just went together.
The serious grandma’s couchness of the paisley needs something fun to balance it out. Turtle love is perfect!
I seriously do love this.

And a matchy wristlet:

This purse has a functional mini pocket on both exterior sides.

purse167.jpgpurse165.jpgpurse166.jpg

Red.
This fabric I’ve been holding onto for a while.
I had used it to make a pencil skirt like almost a year ago?
The skirt came out fantastic and now I have a accessories to match.

Makeup pouches for good measure:

Finally, I scrounged up a bit more of this favorite fabric while going through my closet. Just enough to squeak out a medium sized summer tote.
