WIP!
When I was a kid, my mom crocheted. I’m not exactly sure when she first picked it up, but my memory starts with her making a large orange blanket. It had a white border. And it was tight. And I mean that in an uncomfortable way. It was very nice though, the look and all, I’ve always been a fan of the orange. It just wasn’t all soft and snuggly like you’d think a blankie should be. So she tried again. This time, she eased up and it came out awesome. She has made a number of blankets over the years and they kept the family cozy and happy. It always made me feel safe and peaceful to see her crocheting in the living room. I could see her from our rec room, she’d be occupying the corner of the sofa, her skein of yarn close by. There wasn’t a TV in our living room for most of my childhood, so she’d be sitting up there keeping her fingers busy while enjoying the peace and quiet, I’m sure.
Now, it’s my turn. Oh a whim, I decided to pick up enough skeins to start me on my own crocheted blankie journey. I only know the one stitch, but it’s a good one! I’ve only just started, but it’s lovely. I’m doing a bunch of different colors, rosy lavender, mossy green, beigey tan, all to compliment our current bed clothes. Right now, I have a scarf!
I’m on a mission though. I’ll finish it. It just might take me ’til spring.
